The Wayfarer
fleet at Waldringfield Sailing Club was established over 25 years ago
and has gone from strength to strength. The club has a large fleet of
racing Wayfarers and encourages a competitive but friendly environment
for racing.
Class racing takes place on
Saturday afternoon and there are handicap races on Wednesday evenings.
Whilst there is fierce competition at the front of the fleet there is
also an enthusiastic B fleet developing their racing skills.
To give some variety to the
weekend racing, around five weekends per year are dedicated to trophy
races. These vary in format including pursuit and all in handicap races,
these typically use traditional courses along the river.
Whilst welcoming sailors of all
abilities the fleet continually has people ranked in the top five in the
UK and the World. The class also competes annually with Wayfarer fleets
at nearby clubs for the WODA (Waldringfield, Orford, Deben, Aldeburgh)
trophy.
Waldringfield is not just about
racing and with its location on picturesque River Deben it is well
suited to those who do not wish to race but just access this wonderful
river. There are excellent cruising opportunities with access to sea
sailing only a relatively short sail away
The class has 2 or 3 social
events each year in addition to the numerous events offered by the wider
club.
